# Radon in a New Jersey home sale

> Last updated 2026-10-13. Checked against the official sources listed at the end of this page.

Reviewed by NJ Home Sale Checklist staff

* NJ doesn't require a radon test to sell a home, but buyers commonly test during the inspection period.
* Businesses that test for or mitigate radon must be certified by NJDEP (N.J.A.C. 7:28-27). Ask for the business's and the individual's DEP certification numbers ([NJDEP Radon Business Certification](https://dep.nj.gov/rpp/radon/radon_bus/); Radon Section 800-648-0394).
* DIY kits should carry a NJ certification number starting with MEB9 (NJDEP).
* Disclosure: NJ law requires that radon test and mitigation information be given to the buyer (N.J.S.A. 26:2D-73) confirm with town: statute section not re-checked for this draft.

We don't list radon business yet. NJDEP publishes the official list through its own lookup tool: <https://dep.nj.gov/rpp/radon/radon_bus/>. Providers can [ask to be listed](https://njhomesalechecklist.com/list-your-business/); we would verify against the official record.
