NJ requires lead-safe certification inspections of most pre-1978 rental units at tenant turnover (P.L.2021, c.182). DCA-certified lead evaluation contractors do these inspections and other lead evaluations (NJ DCA lead-safe certification). Lead inspections are optional for most owner-occupied sales, but buyers of pre-1978 homes get a federal 10-day opportunity to test (EPA).
